Hiding Behind a Smile

The sun is shining and all seems well,
Walking along the smells of summer are all around:
Looking out the light is so warm,
But I'm left behind on this ground.

With light on the outside,
It feels so dark within me...
Although outside it's warm,
There is a cold that no one else can see.

What if they could see what was really here,
In the place of a smiling girl there lays
A person so broken and tattered from events' past,
Tired and daft with all of the days.

What if they could speak to what was really here:
Make their comment and give their word:
What would they say when they saw the dead eyes,
Would they breath their sure sigh or choose to be heard?

When company kept is blinded by an expression,
Only reading what false words there tell the smile,
Then what would they say come that fateful day,
That I let myself go for a while...
