As I Say Goodbye

I so totally feel in love with you
you became everything there was to me
I ask you from the start
If it was truly over for you and your ex-husband to be

You said there wasn't any chance at all
that it was as done as death could be
but here I am hurting just the same
because when he came begging you left me

You need to give your marriage
just one more chance
and after 25 years it deserves that
so you left me without a second glance

Then in just a week I heard from you
and you wanted to just be friends for heavens sake
and I tried Oh how hard I tried
but I love you with all my heart and without you it breaks

I am not the kind of person who would ever
want to come in the way of a marriage, that's true
that is why I honestly can not just be a friend
because I am an honorable man who is so  in love with you

So I wish you all the happiness in the world
and hope a tear will never grace your eyes
that you will always be blessed in everything
may your marriage see nothing but blue skies

If it doesn't work out then you better call me
but good Lord willing I will never hear from you
and beautiful I so wish I could just be friends
but I deserve more from a love that is so true

I will miss you
and for a time I am sure I will cry
but as you walk away and our time comes to an end
with fond memories I will remember you as I SAY GOODBYE

    It's very heartbreaking, and sad, but I think that this could use a bit more constructive writing and that it could be more discriptive. Other than that, it was a great piece.

    this is soo sad. i feel sorry for the guy. my friend has been there too and it sucks big time. but he did what he could to keep her happy. i love that about this... nothing shows more love than letting her go if its what she wants an it means she's happy^^

    Nicely done

    The story was told so effectively in just a few short lines.The flow worked effortless,rhyme was very natural.This piece is engaging,true,and painful alongside,but the entire piece is flawless.Loving it,and all the other items you have entered and given me the pleasure of reading.

    Ah...

    This was well written and very sad but not twisted. Even though, however, it was still something I enjoyed and admired.

    These lines were my favorite and the ending fit well.
