Queen of the Waves

we shall go out to the dark
to the shriek of the place

where you will be majesty
and I will kneel within your swirling realm

my respect will still
all that falls around us

Author notes

The title is taken from an old hymn, possibly French or Portuguese in origin. It was used by fisherman to calm one another. I think there are many kinds of storms that are in need of queens.

  • So many times, I wonder if I have fallen flat with what I have written. Few people go back and read the earlier poems, so I am judged on my very last effort. It is encouraging to me that you are making connections and discovering themes in my writing. This makes me eager to press on with new work. Many thanks.

    Scope to kneel for

There's that word "majesty" again! It gives such a scope to the place it describes, a "higher sense" as you described before, and you will "kneel" as well! I am so fortunate to find majesty within your poetry and a place to kneel to the "swirling realm". A most wonderful journey.

this is a rare sentiment that women of this day are starved for. at least we have your poetry...
