Today..... I let go

My dear, today will be hard. Letting go always is
Losing someone you love, a time to reminisce
Today will move so slowly, Take forever to pass by
Your heart will be breaking, and no matter, you will cry
So many around you depend upon your strength
You doubt yourself, but all know, you'll go to any length
Take heart in all the love, that surrounds you everyday
He will smile at you... even if you stumble in what you say
The pain wont last forever. Now its knocked you to the floor
He'll be with you always. And meet you at that door
Funerals are not about morning, but a celebration of a life
Adoration of grandchildren, daughters, sons and wife
You'll have some low times, when you cant say his name
You'll burn with anger and yourself you will blame
Hate everything around you, think the sun wont shine again
Feel so desolated, think you'll never be the same
Then your life moves on and the pain does slowly ease
Like winter into spring with a rustle of a breeze
Maybe you'll start thinking, why did he leave so soon
When things in your  life had just begun to bloom
You'll curse upon that summers wind as she begins to blow
So much in your life you'll wish that he could have known
"You left me dad when I needed you to see my everyday
Oh how I really hate the night when you passed away"
You'll feel like he deserted you, but know that isnt true
You couldn't stand the pain that he was going through
Watching over your family, these oh so many years
He should've been here, but you've been drying all the tears
But winter turns to summer as the years roll by
Even after so long Im glad to say, that I still cry
Our lives roll on we live each day to our very best
He gave us love. He gave us strenth. We have passed every test
For the love he gave to all of you never has it died
And even though we bury you today it is not goodbye
So please forgive me just this once for not knowing what to say
I thank you for all your words and love that in my mind and heart Ive saved

Author notes

I know during this I swap from the other person to me but that is because its what I went through and some of the things I have experienced..... and what maybe to expect in the future. So it's a forsight thingy
What you experienced yesterday is one of the hardest things you will ever do
Todd I hope this reads better than the one I sent the other morning

Please tell me what you think

I plan to revise this poem: please leave constructive criticism!

I have read it once more

and it has sunk in all the words and lines. when i first read it I couldn't take it all in...maybe the reality was too painfull to accept! Anyway i think it is lovely and very well written. As mentioned before it could only be written by someone who has experienced the loss themselves of a loved one. Your insight / love is sooo invaluable to me!

    My dearest Niece,
You are the one person who can help Todd, having been through it twice, for one so young who lost her Dad at a young age and then your Mum, you know what it's like to grieve and though you still have your cries it does get easier to cope as time passes.
You really put your heart and soul into your poems Mia and I'm very proud of you and love you very much.
    Beautiful poem Mia.
    Love AJ XOXOXO

    Dear Mia,

I think that this poem is absolutely stunning! You say exactly the things which a grown son feels when he loses his father and, what's more, you rhyme it very astutely.
Your words not only read very well but there is much sound wisdom and empathy conveyed in the saying.
Our deepest sympathy to Todd in his loss. May your words give him reassurance, strength and comfort.
Applause, love and hugs, XXX Grampa Hugh.
