painful tolls the bell,
in that dread hour at fire rise.
stretch a callous digit
and kiss that golden poison.
numb the mind,
bitter is the taste of nothingness.
what torture's worse?
the chaos of emotion,
or not sensing at all.
I'll never know.
and so I take another draught;
that wicked elixir
pins down my throat.

Deep. Wow. I loved the emotion it invoked...I loved the choice of words you used...I loved that you chose free verse (because free verse has always been hard for me to write) and whiskey happens to be my favorite poison.
I loved everything about this. Thank you so much for entering.
Oh yea...I loved that you didn't enter a pre-write!
