breathing breaths

I realised I felt alive
when I listened through
our silence and heard something

it wasn’t much,
in fact hardly worth noting
but that something in the silence
pulled my lips by the corners
so much that off white enamel
began to show through

something was covered
with ticking seconds
and floated above the between
of this breath, the next
blink and a previous thought

I tried to savour something
but my ears sang over
the rhythm of bouncing
stationary particles
joining our silence
with our breathing breaths

and I think only I noticed
something in the gap
of our silence

but that’s what made it special
and
something to live for

Author notes

prompt
you are not truly alive until you have found something you are willing to die for.

I twisted the prompt slightly and made it more about that I want to live for rather than die for.

To be honest I wrote this about my fiance and me. As I wrote it we were sat in comfortable silence, he was doing his thing and I was doing mine. I just thought how happy I was to be able to share that silence with him.

Yes...life is definetly worth living when you have someone special and would give your life to and for. Excellent work.
