Society's Possibilities

Living in a world where hatred is rife
and the joys of what could be are flattened in hostilities,
no spirit's of dreaming seem to follow their path
and torment is delivered by fist and gun.

We live in a nightmare of shadowed phantoms
spiralling into society's glacial intent,
the colours deem what destiny you may hold
and the theme of life is infected with anger.

But why is that loathing spat in venomous bursts
and who was it decided that beauty came wrapped in skin colour,
screams of the beaten are met with gleeful applause
as tears fall from heaven and paradise seems lost.

Why do we preach peace at the point of a gun
are we not all part of the human race?
slipping on the oil of injustice becomes vicious
and time races away as the world quickly dies.

Pull off the blinkers that obscure true visions
for within every soul we are missing the beauty,
may we all dance in pleasure at the diversity we are
celebrating humanity in perfect alignment.

"and who was it decided that beauty came wrapped in skin colour,"
"Why do we preach peace at the point of a gun"
Those two lines were incredible and true, along with the rest of the poem. Incredible write, best of luck in my contest.

  • Why do we preach peace at the point of a gun
    - exactly - while humanity tries in enforce peace i think it will never happen, we have to let peace find peace rather than violence find peace. a good poem.
