A cat makes a dash cross the lawn in the night
A tomcat gives chase as he follows in flight
And there on the fence they partake in a fight
Oh, the joys of owning a feline.
The night was so black but the moon looked below
And showered her light on the battle and so
The word was sent out and an audience showed
Oh, the joys of owning a feline.
I heard someone shout, shut those howling cats up
And that was the cue for the energized pup
He started to bark, woke the neighbourhood up
Oh, the joys of owning a feline.
Now a chorus grew strong in the night oh so black
The dogs reaching pitch as the cats answered back
And someone yelled out, hey the harmonies flat
Oh, the joys of owning a feline.
Then a siren was heard from somewhere down the street
And the dogs and the cats did their best to compete
They cried and they barked and they all kept the beat
Oh, the joys of owning a feline.
When all was in silence my lukey retired
And curled himself up on the bed that required
He take up three quarters, as he had desired
Oh, the joys of owning a feline.

Ha ha... my dear Lee...I needed the chuckle this write brought me with the vivid imagery to boot! My memories of the howling of cats ready to square off came to mind, and it sounded like babies howling...Oh the joys of having a feline! Delightful write my dear!

Thanks. I am so glad you liked this. Cats to me are very precious. They have personalities you cannot match with anything else. I guess everything has its own. lol!!!!!!!

I love the repetition here. Very funny, especially this bit:
"A cat makes a dash cross the lawn in the night
A tomcat gives chase as he follows in flight
And there on the fence they partake in a fight
Oh, the joys of owning a feline."
The picture is adorable!!
Good luck and thanks for entering my contest!

You still have me singing! "Oh the joys of owning a feline." I love this. I'm a dog person but I just love watching kittens play.

Superb Plus
As a cat lover, I thank you for the chuckles. These beasties will do as they will no matter what. Often, I think they are most mysterious. No wonder the Egyptians worshipped them. Imagery; rhythm, and rhyme are just fine.

I don't own a cat, but I think all of that happened in my street last night! And then the dogs joined in...

Yeah, I have heard it all, especially when i owned a siamese cross named Luke who i mentioned in the poem. He had a real attitude. Thanks for reading.

LOL I loved this
Truly the joys of owning a feline;
Our 14 year old neutered moggie has managed to attract the attentions of a hefty tabby tom who persistently comes around, tries to enter the house [gets chased by teh dog] and does that ridiculous yowling noise that would drive any person mad!
Excellent descriptions though!

Haha oh lol this is way beautiful
Oh how well you know and treat cats
Love that last verse about Lukey
Sounds a helluva lot like our 2 cats!
LOL who needs contraceptives if you sleep with 2 cats on the bed

Thanks, mate. Lukey was my older cat i lost in the early nineties. He was a siamese cross and knew what he wanted and got it regardless. Boy, the stories i could tell you about him. Thanks for reading and will catch up on some reads tomorrow as i am off to bed right now.

You do know cats very well in suburbia. Our farm raised cats would never lower themselves to such demeaning behaviour. Love your poem. Rhythm, rhyme done very well and the repeating line is brilliant.
Congrats from me.
