The Birth of Venus

Poised on your pleated throne, so demure
with brackish wind blowing through your eyes,
tethered to the sea by your crescendoing hair.

Statuette of white sand, soft, by the moor
In gentle symmetry devised
a pose on the pleated throne, so demure.

The angels, transfixed, by your secret pleasure
cling to each other in awe, and sigh,
tethered to you, the sea, and your crescendoing hair.

Venus, it’s how in nakedness you’re pure,
and how flowers petal towards you all the while
posing on your pleated throne, so demure.

It’s how without modesty you hide all allure,
ephemeral desire and pique and pride
tethered to the sea by your crescendoing hair.

Venus, it’s your skin your shape your stare,
and in naked beauty, how you rise
posing on your pleated throne, so demure
and tethered to the sea by your crescendoing hair.
