The Rules For Living

Follow these simple rules
to stay alive.

Don't laugh when everyone else frowns
Don't cry when everyone else laughs
DON'T, under any circumstances,
try being yourself.

Thou Shall Not Kill
Thou Shall Not Live

Don't play the songs you like
Don't say the things you think.
Just shut up and pretend to be
nice and pretty like everyone else.

All these chains all these bars
to keep you "safe" to keep you here
they pull you down they throw you around
and just when you think you're free
remember all the chains hold you down.

Don't have a child when it's socially unacceptable.
Don't live a socially unacceptable life
Just follow the rest of the herd
and don't say anything
until you're all headed towards the slaughter house.

    Smiling at your poem and thinking about the rules that most people live by... and if you try to do the rules you might find that in the long run, the rules are there to help you. Your poem is excellent and filled with wonderful imagery... plus I like the way you set it up and the repeating lines.
