The Park Bench Remembers

Missing image

Near the weeping willow by the pond

a weathered park bench stood

with an open invitation to everyone

"sit here if you would"

Many persons have sat here

on this bench through the years

some very cheerful and happy

others filled with grief and tears

If only the bench had a voice

what great stories it could tell

it could tell of children playing in the park

an of the elderly that didn't do so well

The old would sit and rest a while

or maybe with their friends just talk

maybe just enjoy the soft breeze

or be amazed at a flying hawk

Children would chase each other

or maybe throw or kick a ball

teens might just hold hands

or in deep love they might fall

The old bench has a lot of memories

something occurs near here most every day

people walking past on their way to work

others stopping to kiss, picnic, or play

Many years have gone by

since the old bench was set in this place

several new births have happened

many old folks have died with grace

Sun shine warms the bench during the day

the moon glows over it at night

but the most beautiful site you might see

is when the stars shine over it really bright

I'll always remember this park bench

while sitting under the willow i'm fond

many joyous occasions repeat themselves

while making memories of love by the pond

    nice work

A lot of thought went into this piece and it reads so smooth. Rhyme and rhythm is what I like best in poetry. This is excellent.

The park bench could certainly tell some wonderful tales, if only it could talk. Lovely story so well told on poetry.
