I watch four fat doves on the brick tiled roof
they dot the crown, like round moguls,
and below 'neath heavy laden branches
a rounder robin than I can recall, red breast
seems to swell like winter fluff.
I see small brown and grey birds
not the seed gatherers in bright yellow
or regular spectacles of cardinal flash in red,
the jays beauty in many hues, blues and white.
So much falls from the Black Mulberry in July
when time is a bountiful fruit tree.

Hmm...Your perception of the birds, reminds me of the eyes of the artist that looks for detail in what he sees and hears...This is delightful to read, as I am an observer as well...Keep penning...I am looking in to read!..

All the colours we see in the gardens, the winged hues make Summer even more enjoyable. Your poem is full of colour, and made me think of all the birds I see every day, specially the huge doves

You have a lovely way to write about nature, I think I have told you that just after I started reading your poems, back in 2007. You just get better and better

Thank you Frans-
Mulberry- maybe you don't have that in Africa, or that name certainly, but it a berry tree that gives tremendous amount of sweet berries..as a child they were a snack for the neighborhood children...white or black, sugar sweet berries, and the birds seem to fatten on them...become Sumo-birds!...
thanks for all, my friend, hope all is well with you and your family...PK -

Yes, we know the Mulberry
down in the south were we live. Feasted on them as a kid, and moaned when the birds knibbled on the juicy ones. I'm sure you know to delicious jam too! Your poem brought back memories. I have taken to planting 'berry' trees to bring back the birds to our garden. Baring a bout of flu, we are all fine thank you.

Mulberry jam, [mulberry wine and brandy...too] the plant grows so fast, we even have small mulberry bushes on a fence that coat the ground in mulberry juice.
I think dandelions and mulberries are amazing foods so plentiful in season, and seem to grow everywhere... I'm glad all is good, the flu...yes, hope it passes quickly...all the best...PK
