Past The Clouds

Past the clouds, past outer space
Onward to Heaven and God's angels,
What color is the sky?

What color is it
Before the eternal spirit
Makes its way home?

Is the sky red?
Is the sky purple?
Is the sky grey
Or still shining blue?

Is the sky turquoise or faded green?
Is the sky a magic sight of every color there is?

None of us will know
Until our time for death comes.
But that doesn't mean it's insignificant
Having curiosity just the same.

What color is the sky between Earth,
Outer space and Heaven?
I have no idea
But in my heart I know
It's as beautiful as anything.

Author notes

I was at the local school reading with a child who asked me that very question
which inspired me to write this.I received so much inspiration and learned so much in that one moment. It gave me something to think about.
Children can teach us a lot with their questions which is why it's so necessary and
so important to pay attention to them.

    Wow. This poem asks so many questions, that just proves that art is in the eye of the beholder...
    (That is the quote, right?)
    The poem, strangely, made me thing a bunch of "What if" questions?
    Like, what if the sky really were green, or the clouds red? What ifthe sun were purple and the grass orange?

    Why, I'd think I'd be living in the land colored by a crazy three-year old, but hey, there's nothing wrong with that, right?

      Kids not only say the darndest things. They also say and ask educational things
      like anybody else.

    hmmmm i liked this. it made me wonder...
    i think the sky is pink up there hahaha.
    im not sure why, ive just kinda always believed that. but youre right, we wont know until we get up there... but i agree its probably very beautiful
    i hope it is pink! lolzz
    and of course i agree with your authors notes. its efffin adorable when little kids ask questions. and we can learn alot from them, plus they usually ask something very random and unique, which makes it even better haha. (im not that old myself, but i babysit like all the time so i would know haha)
    welll anyways, this was an awesome poem! a real thought provoker haha. i loved it! great job!
