&when i see you, I really see you upside down.

aanika,

could you tell me
the difference between
a lightning bug and a fire fly?

because I'm having trouble
seeing anything
but darkness
lately.

i love staring at houses on the border of daydreams.
i know that inside they have nightmares in their stomachs,
but it's nice to pretend something in this world isn't poisoned by cobalt reality.

i love the feeling of my toes when the ocean tries to pull me away.

sometimes I wonder where it'd take me.
sometimes I wonder if I'd let it.
--

dear aanika,

i wish i could be like you,
making simple girls with discontent in their eyes fall in love with your words.
i wish that the clock wouldn't have to read '11:11' just to give me hope in my words,
and that i didn't wonder early in the morning if he is temporary,
or if he will be the one who saves me.

i wish that you didn't make sadness
so
fucking
beautiful.
because it makes me fill with jealousy every time my tears don't sparkle like diamonds and when he's there, i can't believe him.
i wish i could believe him.
--

aanika-

i think we have a lot in common.
things like underestimated youth and fleeting hope and waiting hearts.
&i think we've both been broken.

i believe you want to fix people, but don't even know how to fix yourself.
i believe you need someone to trust, and someone to trust you.
i believe you need to succeed.

I believe this because i've come to realize that we all need the same thing.
we all need love and hope and trust and someone to believe in.

but the unfortunate thing about reality is,
we rarely get what we need,
let alone what we want.

--

aanika,

i don't understand why i'm asking you to grant wishes and agree that you, too, need the necessities associated with human emotion. i don't know why people who are so brilliant are also the ones who are most lost.
i don't know why it is that when the power goes out,
the lamps stay dark,
despite how much I might pray for light.

Do you know?
Does anybody?

  • very good

ive been critiquing a lot of your work lately, and I must say this is one of your best. it seems like you once again poured your heart and soul into this, and I love your references to other writers in here.

    Keep up the good work.

    oh wow.

there were so many brilliant lines in this.

and i love how you actually wrote about me. and it was completely accurate even though we've never talked (which we should). it stuns me how much people can tell about me just from reading my poetry. i love this so much.

    thank you.
