Dad's Day

Missing image
This day is not about father…
that fellow who fools around,
foists his seed upon a ripe womb
then foolishly flies the coop…

This is dad’s day…
that dude who does the diapers
and the dishes,
the drama and the discipline,
the drudgery and the dreams…
partaking in the dubiously delightful delivery
of that blessed curse, that male nurturance,
called fatherhood…

Dad, Daddy,
Papa, Pop, Papi, Pa…

You know who you are…

I know Who You Are…

My children call me 'Accha', the Malayalam for Dad, Daddy, Papa, Pop, Popi, Pa...It's same the world over, isn't it, by whatever name we are called. Nice poem.

    • Yes, Love is the same the world over and that Love from Accha, Dad, Daddy.... is a precious commodity. Thank you for being Who You Are.

Wow, this was really powerful. I loved this. Excellent ode to all the real "dads" out there. This was really amazing. I always enjoy your words. Great piece. - cgirl0410

    Yes

There is a difference between fathers and dads, like the one between animal and human. I love the alliteration on D.
Have a great summer, see you in September.

Thanks Margaret. Fathering is biological, fatherhood is about nurturing. There are actually a few other species besides humas in which the males take on a significant or even leading role in the caretaking. I'm glad to say I was/am a dad.

Enjoy your summer, your worthy works will be missed.

    VERY nice

ya know this works so well, especially the tribute to Dad (love those d's!) and the behavior, cause it is a verb, an action, a loving and nurturing from the heart...just that ending here kinda left me hanging ...but after a few more reads...now I've got it!!!....papi... especially since u r one of em! Great pic! Happy day to ya!! Love Always in ALL ways....

Thanks for the compliments, both for the poem and my fatherhood. This was pretty much an expression of the One Father, especially the end. I just put down what came to me. Your term... papi... lend me to a slight revision... thank you. And thanks for the Dad day wishes!

      Trying to let it GLOW,

      Rahad
