What in The World?

What in the world had I gotten myself into?

It was
    soft, sweet, and decadent; it was
timely,
    fleetingly brief as the
beat - beat - beat
    of iridescent hummingbird wings,

and yet, it was
    e  x  t  e  n  d  e  d
into everlasting, undying moments;

It is hard as dry, brittle bones cracking out dusted marrow
in the punishing rays of the unrelenting, unforgiving sun.

It flows like the softest of silk, sliding across the skin,
murmuring like bottled bubbles of pleasure;

it grows in oak-branched braces and like
green and bright gold grasses, crashing
wave after wave over rolling hills, whose
fecundity flows around the feet of mountains,
tickling tender toes with wildflower moments.

What in the world had I gotten myself into?

Only life.

    Isn't it nice sometimes just to let ourselves write without chains of form or rules, almost like going without undies, it feels good to be unconfined. I love your poem! It's a celebration of life, sure enough.

      Oh, yah! And like swimming naked. I love being able to skinny dip--in water and with words!

      Thanks for reading, commenting, and your support.

    Great piece and these lines

    whose
    fecundity flows around the feet of mountains,
    tickling tender toes with wildflower moments.

    Where did they come from? Just wonderful.

      Thanks! You know what they say, "fortune favors the bold," so I thought, "what the heck? Just enter. He can always DQ if it doesn't fit." Also, I enjoyed playing with a style that is not my usual. I liked having the opportunity to stretch my poetic wings into other winds.

      Have fun with your contest.

  • Wow the imagery in this is just brilliant! Best wishes in the contest.
