Letter To a Child of Light and Shadow

Dearest Aanika,

all I know of you
eyes and smile
words of youth, pain only too real
hope and tears fill your pockets.

From the other side of life,
aging, failing,
I send you a dove with worn wings,
heart full of wonders,
an adept of sorrow
trailing laughter, gentle feathers.

Greetings I bring you from that which
you cannot know,
tree-lined valleys you will never see,
oceans not made for you.

Yet they color you blue green gold
with impatience
feet flying too fast for shadows
brown earth barley touched.

May the suns you create shine always.

My heart wills you peace.
                                    Beth

    this letter is lovely...
i was so moved by the line "aging, failing," in particular - and i don't even know why exactly. it just seemed so powerful yet peaceful.
some nice renderings in this. and i liked the symbolism of the dove. - Mary Jo

The use of feathers within this piece is such a wise & tender trimming, Poet. Especially the worn feathers of a dove, the symbol of peace & ultimately, of love. Good luck in the contest.
