Oh sing to me sweet summer's song,
Oh sing of sun and sand.
Your breath so gentle on my ear
Speaks words I understand.
The high tide tenders wiggling toes,
The beach has disappeared.
The waves that pound the empty shore
Are not now to be feared.
The blue sky stretches off the earth,
There's only it and me.
And standing here I know I have
Poseidon's company.
He holds my mind within his grasp,
For in my dreams I might
Somehow rise up to join with him
And be his Amphitrite.
Oh sea-bourne mist that scents the air
And rises from the foam.
Surround me, hold me in your arms
And lead this mermaid home.
My feet move over shifting sand,
As one more wave recedes.
And as the next rolls swiftly in,
I follow where it leads.
For peace o'erwhelms my heart and soul,
My spirit surely knows
That when distressed it runs to where
The gentle sea breeze blows.
And here alone 'midst sea and air,
My special friend close by,
I close my eyes and breathe him in,
He lifts me up on high.
The surface breaks, a streak of gray,
Elation lights my face.
The dolphin winks, then disappears,
We share this special place.
And now I'm covered to my waist,
A nibble on my thigh.
I spot the nibbler through the foam
And wave a fond goodbye.
If heaven came to earth today,
Now don't misunderstand,
The place that it would surely choose
Is my deserted strand.
So water, sand, and azure sky
Surround me evermore,
I'm held to this seductive place,
My all enchanting shore.
