I’m bringin’ it to the table,
what’s left of me that is.
One broken down old cowboy,
full of the rheum-a-tiz.
Shuffle-up and deal the hand,
I’ll draw to an inside straight.
I won’t worry ‘bout money lost,
as long as you stay my mate.
There was a time not long ago,
I walked the straight and narrow.
Carried the Bible in my hand,
the good word in my marrow.
Now I hang in joints of evil,
and drink of the whiskey foul.
Cussin’ the day you left me,
and forever on the prowl.
Why don’t YOU come to the table,
and let’s start things anew.
I’ll give up poker and whiskey,
and you give up wantin’ to screw.
Vigor renewed with heavenly bliss,
brought to the table, and sealed with a kiss.

This is an excellent cowboy poem!!!! I enjoyed the read but most cowgirls would not require you to give up whiskey they may however want your whiskey lol Anyways excellent write

I love it!
This is the first western piece I've read on AP, and it's a damn good one! This brought back good memories of my dad when he was alive. He was a country western singer with his own band. I remember him singing The Gambler in our living room when I was little while my brother and I tried to sneak sips from his drummer's Budweiser. I was only 9, but it's a fond memory. I think I'm inspired to write about it.
I loved your use of rhythm and rhyme, as well as the southern drawl.

OK write I liked "rheum-a-tiz"
I wonder if the "wantin' to screw" thing comes from the poker and whiskey? "Good word" - that is pretty relative. Changing to suit others is usually a fruitless choice.
-
In the end love and life both come down to compromise...
-
Awesome words would sure make a excellent western song...I could just hear you singing this one playing that slide gutiar...I adore every word and I love you
....I know this one is gold...novy
I love the way you put humor in there; laughter is the best medicine
