The Lighthouse

Man-made giant,
Perched upon a throne of rock,
I envy you.
I envy the company of the ocean,
And the lives you have safely guided,
And the sense of duty
That has been given to you by sea goers.

With your all seeing light,
You must have seen the monsters of the deep,
The creatures that I hope to never face,
The beasts of my nightmares,
The ones that scientists are searching for,
The friends you cherish.

You are not the only one living here though,
There is another-
A ghost of a girl.
I have seen her gazing out from your balcony,
She watches over the ships as you do,
Singing a siren’s song to the men who have lost their way.
You keep her locked away,
She is trapped inside your tower
Without her lover.
That is the true reason for her song,
She is searching for the person she has lost.

Colossal titan,
Trapped in a rock prison,
I shall visit you again,
When the tides change,
For the sea spray is soaking through my clothes.
