Cold Coffee Blues

Cold cup of coffee,
half smoked cigarette,
sittin' here in this chair
wishin' I could forget,

Every time that you held me,
every time that we kissed,
all of the good lovin',
that's gonna be missed.

Cold cup of coffee,
CD playin' the blues,
one lonely woman
with nothin' to lose.

Starin' at the ceilin',
starin' at the floor,
goin' out of my way
not to stare at the door.

Cold cup of coffee,
hot glass of wine,
keep losin' all track of
the date and the time,

'Cause time has started
just standin' still.
Lord, this is some kind of torture,
this is some kind of Hell.

Old sun comin' up,
Old sun goin' down.
Me, just travelin' in circles,
goin' 'round and around.

Like the CD keeps' spinnin',
playin' those blues,
me, still, just pacin',
wearin' out these shoes.

Cold cup of coffee,
half smoked cigarette.
Sittin' here in my chair,
wishin' I could forget.

I could just imagine some blues tune while reading this one. It's just amazing. You told a story to which many could relate, with such a great imagery. I loved poem's flow and rhyming.
    Bravo!

    Heavy slow beat

This paints a great visual for me, and yes a sound. A view through a coffee filter, kinda murky and muted. That's the mood I get from this. Very nice, well-written

Beautifully written, so sad though I mean I get that she is waiting for something new. to take away the misery of the old. Kudos on beautifully penned emotions. I could almost smell the coffee and see the cigerette in an ashtray while the cd player goes from track to track. Thank you for sharing

A very well written poem. It seems to rhyme perfectly and the rhythm of the poem feels like a songs. Words seem well chosen. Background for poem is the perfect choice!

    I love the blues!

    Well done.

  • There's actually a song by this name ... the lyrics aren't half as good. I think Sarah Vaughn sings it )not sure)

    • Didn't know about the song. Glad you think my words are better, Thanks for the compliment.

I think the song is "Black Coffee" and Sarah Vaughn did one of the better known recordings (has also been done recently by Molly Johnson and Suzie Areoli).

  • Excellent write! Gets down to that cold, gut feeling that tears us apart. As my man Delbert says, "It's just the blues as blues can get"!

  • Cool!

Loved the thought of cold coffee and warm wine! Now there is time being passed when that happens! Great write

  • I like this very much, so wistful and nostalgic. I've felt that way sitting over coffee or wine, more than once in my life.

    Enjoyed your write.
