Today was the day I was asked an intimate question.
What is poetry?
But, can one really explain?
I think not.
A being cannot yet fathom a world where
You can cry with out tears
Laugh without sound
Fight without fear
Dance with no tune
Be with the ones you love in different places
See ones long lost and their faces
Tell about abuse being a thing of the past
And about how perfect relationships didn’t quite last
Rape was a thing that happened to you
But poetry’s the thing that helped you get through
The heroin once was the child you birthed
But through poetry now its mother has worth
Lean on my shoulder oh poetic soul
Write with passion, reach for your goals
The alcohol was once was your Sunday dove
But poetry gave you a safe thing to love
So lets write ourselves to the ocean
And sail across the vast salt sea
Because that’s what you can do with poetry
And also what it means to me
