Compass

Waltzing through nightmares, strangers seek me
Under bays of sunken gold, masquerades of sea

With softly humming static, soldiers march by
Footsteps over ocean floor, dust knocked to sky

Born from sand, creatures widely, wildly smile
Nameless, floating, spinning, decaying dark and vile

Capsized ships drift past, sinking slowly to the deep
As moaning things emerge, drowning as they weep

Orbs of light slink from crevasses, twisting and violent
Shapeless clouds of color form, sparkling and silent

Whispering leviathans drift upwards from beneath
Many eyed, many legged, with great glinting teeth

Ropes of tentacle and seaweed grasp my legs and arms
I scream soundlessly, eyes blinking morse code alarms

Pulled down past soldier, past ship, past soul and sound
I watch as the last reflecting spears of sunlight surround

Enigmas flashing brightly, my thoughts they swallow
Into their endless splintering depths I will still follow

Dark reflections off of such a still lake,
I Hope the shadows fade as they move on,
lingering not too long to haunt any dreams...
    peace,
    matt
