I was told the other day
to pray;
to talk to God
and tell him what I wanted
But I do not need
anything from him
You see,
When I was a little girl
I got down on bended knee
And talked to God,
most humbly,
and gave him a simply plea:
Make my enemies foolish
Make there words sound like baaa's
like the sheep they
compare themselves to
Make there minds full of fables
like the stories they hold
so dear
Make my rivals
ridiculous Lord
So that I may find a way
to laugh
I see now,
being older,
He has granted my request

i never really read much by Voltaire, but this poem is very good. again, the first couple of verses mislead me! i thought it would be about how you prayed to god and he never gave you what you asked for. wrong again!
very good write. -
Our enemies often become enemies simply because they display the sort of behavior we fear most within ourselves. Not always, though.
I compete with only myself; then, there's always room for improvement.

Love it, love the ending, everybody around doesn't have good sense, interesting write

I realized it was Voltaire like half way through and that was cool. The man had a lot of good things to think about. Maybe God and him shared the same enemies and they were friends by that extension. When I think about the time period, that might be about right, but.......good read.
