Into The Shadows

Missing image
In quietude footprints echo beneath,
haggered souls with nil to bequeath.
The light of day shall quickly fade,
a march of sadness put on parade.

With dalliance of whittled away life,
fell prey and subjugated mid strife.
Now cast away in island of stones,
to leave in wooden boxes of bones.

Light of day cast in windows small,
shadows dance mid cracks on wall.
Last home on earth damp and dank,
small dark musty cell mid odors rank.

Before the body, soul withers,dies,
after muffled tears come silent cries.
Human beings of shattered existence,
in the end find recoiled resistance.

Within the walls, mean men depraved,
these lost souls that were unsaved.
Miserable mere existence awaits inside,
across the bridge all hope has died.

Contest Prompt Is Picture...

The History of the Bridge of Sighs in Venice Italy:
The Bridge of Sighs was constructed in 1602 to link up the facade of the Ducal Palace with the newly established Prison established in 1589 by Antonio Da Ponte, section head of the Bureau of the Salt of Venice which financed building. It is of baroque style, drawn by the architect A. Contino. It is the only covered bridge in Venice. And entirely closed: windows are narrow and let very little light pass through
their stony wire netting, where from they can catch a glimpse of San Giorgio and the Lagoon.
It was the last picture of the freedom for those who were going to spend the remainder of their days in prison. A moment of intense regrets and sadness.

What a sorrowful poem; the vocabulary in this washes over me making me feel the elegance within the pain, almost as though I was reading an old piece of parchment with scrawled penning rather than just the screen

    Beautifully done

    Stay safe
    Love to You

beautiful rhythm and word usage .... and eye catching images... the thoughts have been put across powerfully so easy to grasp for the reader.

it drips sadness... almost a serene atmosphere... extremely calm as if the lull before a storm to take on life...

    Beautiful expression....
    a great write
