When I was younger,
I accepted what I was told.
Faith was easy because my parents told me
You loved me unconditionally.
As I grew older, my faith wavered.
It became like an eroding footbridge across a chasm,
Where far below waters of fear, pain and disbelief
Rushed through the canyons of my life.
Until one day I Heard and Accepted
Your Word on my own,
Remembering the Truth my parents shared
Long ago in a much simpler world.
My faith became a covered bridge,
That carries me closer to You.
It protects me even as I sometimes hesitate to cross.
It remains strong through wind and rain, storm and quiet.
Until I step across that final plank
And meet You on the other side.
My Faith will stay this covered bridge,
Strong and Simple in it’s beauty.
