A Campfire's Gift

What comes to mind while watching the flames
sitting around a campfire with family and friends
surrounded by billions of stars in the heavens
kissed by the white light from The man in the moon.

The flickering fire creates many different colors an hues ;
first shades of green followed by yellow
soon orange then a brilliant red turning to blue
curling and swirling between the burning logs on fire.

Hot glowing embers that eventually turn white
emanate both streams of smoke and thermal heat
as the air rises to touch our extremities
creating a sense of comfort ,safety and warmth.

Blinded by it’s light and the warmth it poses
our mind is put to rest from all our transgressions
as we lift our sight skyward as if counting the stars
silently giving thanks for all the wonderful gifts we possess.

  • It's been a long time since I was able to camp out underneath the stars. We were just discussing it the other day how we would very much like to do just that. There is something spectacularly magical about sitting around the campfire. That last stanza . . . it couldn't possess more insight and intrigue! I particularly love the line remarking "counting the stars." This is just lovely and reminiscent.

      B,

I enjoy getting away to my campsite every chance I can. This past month's evenings have been cool enough to build a campfire .My fire-pit is surrounded by maple and walnut trees that stand about fifty to sixty feet in the air, opening to the sky when, on most clear nights, you can see a billion stars.
One of God's beautiful master pieces-the star studded heavens!
Get out there and enjoy it young lady!

      • One of my favorite campsites is in north Georgia, Tallulah Gorge. We spent many summers camping up there when I was a kid. Beautiful, beautiful scenery, and the people there are always so friendly. It's right next to the Tallulah River, so there's always a place to toss out a line. Nothing beats pitching a tent, roasting up a fire, and having the stars at arm's length! I even roast a marshmallow or two even though I'm not fond of them. I'd be willing to pitch the tent in the backyard at this point.
