blue pennies

you say i am a writer
so you can remain speechless
while i sell my verbs and nerves
when monday asks for money

and you are naughty
sitting in a room with a spoon
sunk into your pot of sad honey
look at me
sticky
stuck
what luck
oh mommy
darling

...fix me...

the night giggles at us
but not kindly
it chews
like oil on a bird
the hot salt of your lips
finding the iron of my cheek
as i turn
leaving a skid mark in the ocean of your chest
which bleeds white for five seconds
before swallowed up by the green blood of goodbye

yet
you still call me
moonstone
and sit and watch me
as if i had the power over owls and those other things of night
that frighten your belly button and knees

                please

find me

singing in the chapel of your lungs
creeping through the straw of your bones
little wiggles
little songs
&
you come sudden
like sugar to stem
when bees flatter
and i turn again
not for the promise in your face
nor for your eyes
twin jellybeans crusted brown and sweet
the egg of your nose
the strut of chin lined with tiny holes
each punctured by a horned moon

i turn
for your hands
as they bake on my chest like fresh bread
rising to cup my jaw
the palms as meaty as stars
and smelling of blue pennies

    This poem is perfect.

I think Love is a cocktail, a mixture of sugar, fruits, and spirits. As long as you like the taste, you'll drink it.

A pleasure that your my favorite.

  • ewww love burns!

can't help but love every word of this though.

  • excellent yet again. You are quite the poet. I think you should have won gold with this it was very fasinating!

It's nice to see you've been posting a little more often. You have some of the best poetry out there. Though I don't feel that you have surpassed Theresa. Despite how vivid your own work is, there's still something of an untouchable spark to her work.

Sorry if this happens to be out of line. I just read through your things, having acessed them through your author page soaked in her work. I can't help but read them in passing. I've read them many times I never seem to get tired of them.

Ah, I'm tired and I'm rambling off topic. I came her to say I liked this one and have ventured off entirely. My apologies. I'm simply going to back out now.

Darling Blkwidow, you are always welcome on any of my pages. You are someone I very much admire and respect when it comes to the nuances of poetry and it is always a true honor to see you come by to leave your prints. And of course it is never out of line for you to praise Teresa...for she is someone I hope to emulate sometime in the far far future. She is the reason why I write poetry, and which student is ever jealous that their master is praised? I know I am not. And I deeply appreciate that you find her works as haunting and beautiful as I do. That is why I have her on my author's page.

      Thank you so much...for everything.

One thing I have always loved about your writing is that it is so original, and every time it is so you. I'm convinced I could identify your poetry even in the absence of any evidence that you wrote it. Seriously, it is like a living thing.

Of coursssse I love all of this, how could I not? If I had to pick one little bit to adopt and love and nurture, it would be:

    "please

    find me

singing in the chapel of your lungs"

Yeah, I think Neruda would be a little jealous of you The way you take a word and give it more meaning than it was born with

    Thank you for this entryyyyyy

unlike my lovely co-judge, luckily i read the title right, lol - and i must say i love the title and the concept of blue pennies... something timeless about it

this is such a beautiful poem, one of those one wants to wrap around yourself and sit and snuggle in the love and warmth that seems to rise from each and every word - definitely made my eyes go all soft and shiny. Impossible to pick my favourite line or phrase or one of the wonderful metaphors you've applied here. You seem to write with such ease and with such sincerity of voice - and the latter is something i so adore in poetry. I also liked the reaching out here, the comfort of touching... loved it all. Gorgeous poetry - thank you for this entry.

if you manage to add a bit of guilt to your writings
you might actually start your own tantric-pop version of qabbalah

"the palms as meaty as stars"

After I stopped choking on Allyce's comment, this line was what lingered most for me, Darcy. Methinks Neruda would attempt to bribe you or try to seduce you in order to be able to use that line in one of his poems. Absolutely gorgeous, my Friend. Good luck in Nic's contest, Sweetie.

lol Allyce has ruined this now for I can't read it without thinking of blue penises So I will just assume that and it still had me spellbound

  • You always have such a way with words! I love to read your stuff. Loved the title. I saw a blue penny once, but it was just some paint that had gotten on it. Your author notes made me laugh too because I know just what you mean!
