What Happened To That

You know, it used to get warm here
You know, it used to get hot
You know, we used to watch the heat
shimmering on the dock
Don't say you forgot
And while the dogs were swimming
And the old man was fishing
We would sneak off down the river to talk
And we had a plan then
Oh, reckless abandon
And life looked so grand then
Oh, what happened to that?

You know, I thought I was strong once
You know, I thought I was stout
With my political musings
and my old smart doubt
Well, I guess I sold out
And though I wrote like a poet
You'd have known that I wrote it
'Cause no one knew what I was talking about
Yeah, I wanted to fight then
But there was no one to fight with
'Cause no one liked fightin'
Oh, what happened to that?

Can someone tell me where the time went
Tell me where my mind went
Someone came and stole it away, away
All I know is he that started
Has long since departed
And he isn't here to help me today

You know, she looked like an angel
I thought she fell from above
With the arms of a close friend
and the voice of a dove
It was my first time in love
And while I was looking at diamonds
She was kissing her guy friend
That's what summer I don't like to think of
And I was so blind then
I picked out a diamond
All I can say is I tried, man
And look what happened to that

Can someone tell me where the time went
Tell me where my mind went
Someone came and stole it away, away
All I know is he that started
Has long since departed
And he isn't here to help me today

You know, it needs to get warm here
It really needs to get hot
Then we'll find something to do
around here there's not a lot
But you got what you got
And while the kids are swimming
We'll go out chasing women
Shoot some pool, what'cha think, just a thought
Don't really know what the crowd does
It's always shifting around us
But I'm not who I once was
What happened to that?

What happened to that?

Please tell me what you think
