Stained-glass images

Blue, red, and greens,
casting light on her broken face,
her cheeks void of any life,
her eyes dull and distant.

She began as a ray of hope,
the sunshine in a bleak existence,
never knowing what the future holds,
she prays for a new salvation.

Hope has left her,
with the blood that flowed freely,
she died all alone,
without even a hand to hold.

The image of a woman,
still fresh in her dying mind,
holding on to the hand of a lover,
a decaying corpse just like herself.

The knowledge finally coming to her,
that life is what you make it,
cold and alone she waits,
for death to grab her.

It could have been different,
she could have had peace,
died with some dignity,
with love.....

I like where you took the prompt, it's definitely unique.

However, the poem itself has some very cliched topics and phrases.

I'm not sure why, but it feels as though you contradicted yourself.

    "she died all alone,
without even a hand to hold."
but then you go onto say
"holding on to the hand of a lover."

unless i'm reading it wrong, they are two different things.

Thank you for entering, and good luck in the contest
