Is this what college taught you then
To blow away your time
By playing pointless hand held games
And desecrating rhyme?
Is this what college taught you then
To feed your ego well
While mocking others in your art
And wishing them to hell?
Is this what college taught you then
To cry and run away?
It seems that you were more a man
Before you went away.
Is this what college taught you then
To stunt instead of grow?
To keep your immaturity?
I'm glad I didn't go!

College is . . . interesting.
I'm halfway through my first semester; and I will admit that I have learned some useful things -- I feel like I'm a thousand times better with my musical theatre performances; and I FINALLY started writing my first play (with plans to start on my musical soon).
But on the other hand, I can completely see where you're coming from.
Your second stanza makes me think of my math teacher; a woman who insists on being addressed as "Professor Doctor . . . " and who had a hissy fit when a girl coughed once in class; admonishing her for possibly spreading the swine flu. When the girl said she felt fine; she, a grown woman, asked "and where did you get your doctorate from?" (This teacher has a J.D., btw. I didn't know you could open a medical practice with that).
I think for what college should be, it's become a place of conformity; where, (to be sarcastic and rude, but with a grain of truth) the liberals try to bring you over to their side. Stupidity is encouraged and flaunted, ad nauseam. (I won't get started on the smoking ban at my school, lol).
As stated in your reply below, college in the old days was about learning and growing. Now, it's about fighting off the people who would change you.
Well written, hun.
My best, Zach -
I like it! Some people always seem to learn the wrong things.

Thanks! I don't know... in the old days (like when I read about the lives of poets) going to college actually meant something. They went there to really learn things. Now it seems like everyone comes out dumber than when they went in. :-/
