seeds...

my shadow seems longer
just as a man
who has seen autumn come and stay

the heat of summer
remains in my bones
but the air holds a promise of chill

an empty place beside me
still speaks of time, and green
when warm winds stroked supple limbs
now they come in coolness
to give flight to shells of life

its shadow seems to blend
in the dimmer day...
Is it beginning to disappear?

I hold what is left of me
but know the blessing of letting go

I hold seeds in my hand
but have learned love
in this season also means
to let things go

  • I was totally moved by this. It is such a universal message ...and yet so very intimate and personal. This idea you have, about the the experiences in our lives being the teachers of love, is interesting to me. I think you have the gift to find such beauty, you have the perspective of wisdom. I don't think it is a common conclusion though, which is what makes these thoughts so compelling. Im not sure everyone gets to the place brought forth in that beautiful couplet about holding on and letting go.

There are many wonderful things to point out here, but the message and QW outshines them all. I love reading something that stirs the deeper places of the soul. You have done that here, and I thank you.

    What a nice metaphorical read!
"air holds a promise of chill" - nice metaphor
    "place beside me
still speaks of time" - looks like it's our past
"give flight to shells of life" - a beautiful line!
    I liked the very ending:
"I hold what is left of me
but know the blessing of letting go
I hold seeds in my hand
    but have learned love
in this season bares the beauty
we have made in our lives"
I enjoyed the poem. Thank you for sharing.
Your poems always a pleasure to read!

You have painted the feelings of this 'inner' autumn very well.
To see things coming and go and accepting that is indeed a blessing, which we can only learn through time.
A beautiful poem full of thoughts.

I'm in love with the whole picture and thought as you bring this around to a new season, "I hold seeds in my hand/But have learned love/In this season also means to let things go" wonderful
