Words seem simple enough when spoken
Light off the tongue, they float on our breath
Soft whispers tickling the ear
Or shattering our solitude with angry shouts
Vowels and consonants jumbled together
Giving meaning and form to our ideas
Adding texture to dreams and thoughts
Just one, the right one, can lift us up
Another can cast us into the depths of despair
They can lift a weight from your mind
Or lay heavy in your heart
Simply stated or passionately spoken
Mixed with music, an inspiring anthem
Or a haunting, aching, heartfelt melody
They can turn back time to remind us
Of simpler days or rekindle old feelings
They can inspire hope for the future
As dangerous as any weapon made by hand
Wounding us in ways only the heart can see
The simplest of words twisting our thoughts
They can create dreams or nightmares
Make us chase our desires against all odds
Simply spoken, changing our world
Minute by minute, day after day
One syllable at a time
This is a first draft...constructive critizism please...

I don't believe anything you write needs work, I really feel this piece is excellent. I know someone who would also enjoy this, she studies the make up of words and languages. I think I might suggest this site and your name to her if you don't mind.
