Grandma, you've been gone so long , I really still miss you
Dealing with your passing on has really been an issue
Even though I know you're above watching me throughout the day
I wanted to take some time of my own just to write this and say
Remember the time I was mad at my mom and called you on the phone
You said you'd come to 'rescue' me, then asked Mom if I could go
Remember the times we would go get ice cream, strawberry was your favorite
Then there was the other time, you bought for me my special silver anklet
Do you remember, Grandma, the night you passed away
I ran to my window and prayed to God, I'd see you another day
Grandma, you started to slip away, hurt began to subside
But then came my teenage years, I needed you by my side
Grandma, why did he take you, I just don't think it is fair
Taking a wonderful person like you, whom is so very rare
I know something Grandma, you were never really gone
I know this because I felt your warmness beside me all along
Remember the awful night I tried to take my life
I know you were there Grandma cause I could hear you cry
I felt you embracing me the nights I could not sleep
You would lay beside me and gently kiss my cheeks
The day of my graduation was a hard one for all
I could feel you smiling though as my name was called
Sometimes, I see you standing there when I feel all alone
I softly whisper "I love you" in the sweetest tone
Sometimes I smell your perfume when I miss you so
Hold me closer Grandma, I'm not ready for you to go
Grandma, I still miss you and keep you locked inside
I think about you all the time, not a single day goes by
Dealing with your passing on has really been an issue
Even though I know you're above watching me throughout the day
I wanted to take some time of my own just to write this and say
Remember the time I was mad at my mom and called you on the phone
You said you'd come to 'rescue' me, then asked Mom if I could go

Author notes
My grandmother passed away in a car wreck 15 years ago, but it's still a very fresh hurt to me. This poem was an emotional one for me to write. R.I.P Grandma Alice, I love you

This is so sweet, it reminds me of me with my grandparents. I had some issues with their passings too. It's hard letting go of someone that had so much influence and presence in your life that's blessed you with such fond memories and love.
This is very well done.
Thank you for entering my contest

Wow...its very emotional. It brought tears to my eyes. I'm sorry for your lose. But I'm sure she is very proud of you. I love the poem. Your grandmother sounds like a wonderful person. Very nicely written. Very powerful. I love it. -
This was beautifully sad!
I cried when you said:
"Sometimes, I see you standing there when I feel all alone
I softly whisper "I love you" in the sweetest tone."
My grandmother died when I was young and it' s been 13 yrs. now and the pain is still fresh for me as well.
She loved me more then anything in this world and I'm extremely lucky to have had her for as long as I did, but it doesn't quench the thirst that arises when I need her. She was truly special, a gem truly missed.

Aw, this is such a tragic, yet heart warming write, because you can remember all the good times you and her had together, and she'll always be in your heart. wonderful write.

This is such a sad, heartfelt poem. Yet I also found it inspiring to know that your Grandma also gave you many values to live by, because you know she is still with you as your life progresses.
A beautiful read indeed
