If you are rain

call me earth if you are rain,
thunderhead dripping steam,
sultry storm unnerving every reservation;
let my curve redeem your oath

let hips of widened meadow,
laced in wilted petals, weeping bloom,
blush again in reddened wonder,
swollen full,
suckling every bead of dew
from willing, nimbus lips

let taut, brown lands of summer's drought
soak as sponge in supple washing;
let templed hills and desert crevice
fill beneath the licking rush

call me earth if you are rain,
swift release of higher passion,
until I drown in spilling tempest,
whelmed by flood,
refusing rainbows

    Contagious in its passion...
    I will reread until I am drenched in it!
    What an inspiring verse to lean towards the sensual side of nature and her spillings.
    This read commands with soft-spoke beauty.

    this is wonderful...there is a sensual side of nature, skies to land, air to sea and rain how the lands seem to wait and then sate itself...the imagery here is filled like the land under a storm...beautiful...PK

    This poem speaks to all the senses. loved the title and the way this poem falls on the ear when read aloud. I agree with Mari, it has wonderful, soft sensual tones. Really lovely poetry - elegant and with a classical feel about it.

    The photo is gorgeous and so is your poem!
    I don't know if it was your intention, but your poem has soft sensual tones. I guess that is what nature's beauty is, sensual...
    Beautiful!

    Great imagery and sensual sensory metaphor. Entrancing word choices "let my curve redeem your oath" and "willing nimbus lips." I feel I'm missing out on understanding the last line.

    • The rainbow is the symbol of promise that the whole earth will not be overtaken with flood....so for the earth to refuse the rainbow is to suggest that she WANTS to be flooded... in this metaphorical case, the speaker wants to be completely overtaken by her lover's passion. Does that make sense?

    Such a grounded bug would shine
    her wings of pollinating hum,
    for she would be my rythm-drum on petal
    come home, rejoicing storm, to be transformed;
    this sacred drip to clease in sip,
    what nature blooms
    by stream at morning.

    So very beautiful...
