Excuse My Muse

I am always trying, it’s on my mind both night and day
But what’s a poet to do when her muse just wants to play
I’ve begged, cajoled, prayed and pretended but it’s just no use
My muse just turns up her nose, that makes for another excuse

I think my muse is tiring of my futile attempts to write
She even fell asleep as I was turning out the light
Night time is my best time to think, she used to help a lot
But now it’s another story, one without a plot

And what’s made it even worse of late, you see
Is the letters are disappearing from my computer keys
And with Hunt and Peck, the system that I use
It takes awhile to figure out each word from my muse

Seems there’s always something standing in my way
Maybe I’ll just join her for another play filled day
And if by chance she happens to think of a poem or two
I’ll be sure to write it down and enter a contest just for you

    Well

I don't know Hugh but if my Muse has gone there it needs to come home, I am tired of gettng half way through a poem and going brain dead, brrn stuck in the middle of a story forever and my keys are sticking even though I spray them out
with dust remover. No worry there are no kids in my house to sniff it.

You dont have to excuse it this time, excellent standards set here. It really still sounds like free verse, and how did you disguise that one? How, what you've gone through a personal experience of "huh" to come out with "wow"

Thank you, Tony. I always value your comments at my writing attempts

  • Maybe we could just send all of our muses to muse camp for a refresher course in how to properly behave. I mean think about it, if this many people all entered this contest then obviously our muses all have been acting up... lol

I enjoyed reading this well written piece of art.

You've captured my situation as well! And in good rhyme and detail.
A great description and I enjoyed the reading.

Dear Dee I'll have to ask my muse
to have a chat with yours,
to remind her of her union dues
that come due and much worse
if she continues to neglect, refuse
her obligation to you! Of course
It really is not hers to choose!

My muse remains always ready to
    send the best words along.
    Why lose? Display's steady, true
and set to help yours belong.
Toss the coin, heads or tails,
    She never fails, always nails
the right way, coming over to you!

The neatest thing for us to see?
You didn't need such help from me!

It's hard to reel in the muse when they are playful and they are awfully difficult to wake up at times. Mine is usually passed out in a stupor. lol

    A very enjoyable read, Dee.

I'm not supposed to comment on Hugie poems (my own stubborn decree, lol) but this one was too cute so I had to. I'm a hunt and peck typist too, thank goodness I can see the letters still!

The muse will return when she feels like it. Until then, sit back, have some coffee and have fun.

Awwwww don't you hate that when you go to bed and get words for a poem and your Muse falls asleep and you lose it.
Great poem Dee, when your Muse wants to play there's no way of stopping them is there? They just go along their own merry way.
Good luck in the voting..Love Jen

"And what’s made it even worse of late, you see
Is the letters are disappearing from my computer keys

    Not even half a year
    on a new Logitech keyboard
and the R has lost its leg,
the E has a disappearing base,
and the N and M show just
    their top most points!

    Truly a consumable product!!

      Dear Aesthete M-C, aka Cleopatra,

Dear Dee, Haha, Suzie and I kidnapped everyone in the groups Muse and now poor Hugh is stuck with them, but we will take them back to their owners soon.
My letters are disappearing of my keyboard too which makes it harder and my T and number 5 won't work properly.
Great poem sweetie, good luck in the voting
    Love Joan

    Dear Dee,

I'm glad you signed your proper name
    so there is no surmising.
You've thus escaped the price of fame:
    that dread anonymising.

It seems, in spite of my protests,
    that Kevin will not yield
and authors' names in our contests
    are carefully concealed.

    Most authors are 'anonymised'
    although I'm not a judge.
The Hosts and I feel ostracised
    yet Kevin will not budge.

He says it's to keep judging fair
    (at least, that's what we're told) -
    that fairest judges anywhere
are those who've paid for GOLD!

    No wonder our abandoned Muses
    don't know where to go
    when anonymity confuses
    those they ought to know.

A lot of them are running wild
    as though they are depraved
but yours, my dear, is meek and mild
    and quite the best behaved.

Sorry to have launched into my pet hate on AP,
ie: this stupid anonymity thing. As an all-powerful Moderator, can't you persuade Kevin how ineffective if is?
I hope that Susan E. P. and Angelica have returned all the Muses to their rightful owners because it's far too cold here for semi-clad females and none of my winter woollies fit them properly - either front or rear!

Thanks for your gorgeous entry and good luck in the voting.
Applause, love and hugs, XXX Hugh (R.)

  • another missing muse I see...soon Hugh will tire of all of them and return them to the rightful owners...good poem and good luck
