And truthfully, there have been weeks
That dragged on forever
And days I just wished for summer
But looking back at the time elapsed
It just doesn't feel like its been that long.
So sitting down to write this
As a nice, traditional poem
Is a lot harder than it may seem
The problem lies within the question
What does graduation mean?
I could talk about the friendships made and broken
Or the lessons that we've learned
I could go on endlessly about our triumphs
And good times we've shared.
But after a little bit of thinking
I've come to the conclusion
That nothing I can say here will do this experience justice
Because graduation means something a little different to each of us
To some of us, it means freedom
To others, it means achievement
There are those of us who see it as a coming of age
And many of us are unsure about what lies ahead.
When it comes down to it
I can only tell you what the end of the year means to me
It means we have to move on
And there are some things we have no say in
It means changes are coming our way
And whether those changes are for the better or worse
Nothing will ever be the same again.
Change, thats what graduation means to me.
What does it mean to you?
Author notes
A draft graduation poem I'm going to submit to the yearbook...can't believe graduation is almost upon us. I don't think theres any way I can express the emotion with words - it always seems to end up sounding cheesey. So this was my attempt at an un-cheesey but emotional graduation poem. I'm afraid it sounds more like an essay.

Erskine ain't gonna know what hit 'em
Cheers to leavin' behind the assholes, here we go to meet some more...

Amos you have a sensitive side I can tell...
I'd prefer that you keep that within,
it was a peek into what you hide within your not careing exterior. As I'm writing this and you look back upon it you and I probably don't see all that many neagitives about moving on and ditching most of those asshole people. Your damn right we're moving on and once we done highschool we'll be at Orono and we can raise hell there too. MMFCL

WOW
WOW ! This is really good- i haven't graduated yet and i haven't even started collage yet- but i love this poem, i can still relate to the whole CHANGE thingy. I love the way you don't define graduation and how instead you state what you think it is- and what it means to you. It's a truly great poem or essay if u wish (Nothing wrong with essays- well maybe my essays but i dunno)Well done great write- deffinately deserves front page! -
You'll certainly see me again, man. Ashley and I might just become your stalkers. Its sad though, we'll miss you! You've gone to the dark side
WE LOVE YOU DAN

Good!
Since I am your class mate I figure I know something about what your saying, especially since coming (May? June?) might be the last time I see some of my classmates pretty faces.... Goodbye might be forever, and I know it will not be easy :-( -

This subject always makes me cry...I might just spend all of graduation night bawling. I can't believe Dan isn't going to be there next year, and we have to move into uncharted territory without him. Seth changed his mind, so I'm still entertaining the thought that Dan might, but likely in vain. I like what graduation means to you, and if this goes into the yearbook I'll try to edit it to put that in. OK, now I'm done babbling. Thanks for your comment buddah.

I wasn't even even expecting it but I started balling when I read this, *sniffles* *coughs* okay I am over it,AND SMELLY DAN HEAD IS GOING TO WINSLOW! To bad we can't make him change his mind....But seriously I did ball, no I am not kidding. And what graduation means to me is we aren't school kids anymore( like a coming of age) We are actually going to highschool next year and after that, well what next?
Great Job buddah!

I think it's great!! and there is nothing wrong with a poem that sounds like a story or an essay...as you could see in many of mine on cryinthorn13....I think this is an awesome poem and theres no reason it shouldnt go in the yearbook..

!!! this is so awesome! ususally i would think it's really corny or stupid or somthing to put a poem/essay in the yearbook, but this is awesome! definitely a work of genius...
my only critty would be in order to make it flow better, maybe something along the lines of:
And there are some things we have no say in
It means changes are coming our way
And whether those changes are for the better or worse
Nothing will ever be the same again.
maybe to change it to:
And there are some things we have no say in
It means changes are coming our way
And whether those changes are for the better or worse
Is yet for us to say
But nothing will ever be the same again.
ok, maybe not exactly that because that seems to be too short of a line too, but i would reccomend something to that idea go in there because it seems to make too big of a leap in the sentence there. then again... maybe not, jsut tryin to be helpful, but as ususal, i'm probably wrong. hehe, GREAT POEM!!! *Cheers*

Hmm...I would agree that this poem sounds essay-like, but I wouldn't necessarily call that a bad thing. You got all of your ideas out and still wrote a very good poem...it almost made me cry!! But then again...its that time of the month and just about everything makes me cry
hahaha moving on...I think this was very well written, and I loved your outlook on it and how you included the way other people look at graduation--it is interpreted many different ways. Nice job
