Where were you when I tried to communicate,
tried hard to relate, to keep us in a state
of mutual understanding?
I planned the romantic dates, dealt with
the heated midmight debates,
did all I could to keep things straight,
so you would know you were getting
all you were demanding.
Through pleads and tears, did you even
try to decipher my fears, the struggle
through all the years,
as I urged you to let me be heard.
The parade of female friends,
the parties, the drinking, it all
nevers ends, the ups, the downs
the outs and ins, yet
you chose not to hear nary a word.
So now we find ourselves here
at the proverbial crossroad.
Well, you ignored the signs of decay
that showed, so as I'm ready to
unburden myself of this cumbersome load,
you need to talk when there's
nothing left to say.
Sorry, I no longer crave to be in your arms,
I'm now able to resist your charms,
why didn't you take heed to the alarms,
for I too thought we would be
together until we were old and gray!
