Punishment

‘I don’t want them punished with a baby.’
Is that really what the president said?
He doesn’t want his children to be punished
So he punishes their children instead?

I can’t believe it’s gotten so remorseless.
How did this man become the president?
How could he say another human being
Is nothing to him but a punishment?

Author notes

when i first read that quote "I don't want them punished with a baby" it almost made me sick.
punished with a baby? a baby is not a punishment! a baby is a human being.

What say you?

a baby is never a punishment and they did not ask to be born it was not their choice so i cant believe that one of our presidents said that

  • This is a good poem, but I understand where he's coming from. Kids who have babies so soon never get to reach their full potential most of the time

So it's not so much a punishment but a hinderance
when you're young as his children are and will be for awhile. If they have kids when they're old enough it's not a punishment - all will be (most likely) be well.

(Take into account that I think abortion is very wrong but I see how a baby could hinder life until the parents are old enough)

    I wholeheartedly agree. 3 applause.

If you want to make the poem better, I'd advise adding imagery.

What an unfortunate and tactless thing to say... he should have known better.
