my words were tender once,
to a small child without hope,
they brought a tearful smile,
evil spirits dwelt within me once,
they painted themselves on paper,
through my faltering heart,
you won't believe me,
but I had wings once,
and I flew away from this place,
mayhaps I am but a silvery sprite,
locked in this body and earth bound,
for some untimely mistake,
try as I might,
I'm a canary in his cage,
claw as I do,
I'm but a leopard chained
none of this makes sense I am sure,
maybe someday I'll find someone like me,
someone bound with wings,
some other trapped beneath a rock,
but still singing,
with her face in the dirt,
beauty is still here,
simply a bit dirty.
