Best of Me

My children are the best of me, their innocence divine
My heart explodes with satisfaction knowing they are mine
They make up my foundation, the things that make me whole
From now until forever they’re fundamental to my soul

They’re the universes masterpiece, the stars within my eyes
The epitome of purity and all that it implies
Honesty has no boundaries, they’re accepting, and sincere
Their love is pure of the heart, it knows not how to fear

My children are the best of me, I hold their love on high
Part of me for eternity, as endless as the sky
Comfort overwhelms me with their soft embrace
Admiration engulfs me with the kindness of their face

The longing for their happiness is an overwhelming force
I have to do my best to guide them through life’s course
They see life as an adventure waiting to take place
I’ll stand behind them through all of time and space.

Author notes

This is a dedication to my babies, a simple poem just doesn't do them justice. They are my universe!

What did you think? I appreciate an honest opinion.

I plan to revise this poem: please leave constructive criticism!

Very wise words that any parent feels in every living moment. Beautifully captured in verse.

  • Sweet

Kids really are where it's at. I often wish I had some of my own. Becareful what they learn while "growing up." It's not all about keeping them safe from horrible things.

"Honesty has no boundaries, they’re accepting, and sincere
Their love is pure of the heart, it knows not how to fear"

It's about making sure they don't fall into the more common traps of our society also. Of course, they won't always be this pure, and that must be hard to think about... but if you love purity, you've got what it takes to teach them about it.

I think it's a very beautiful poem and illustrates pure love as a parent. I'm one myself and you would and will do anything for your child(ren). Even though you say a simple poem doesn't do them justice, I feel that you have even with the three words you used as the title; "Best Of Me." That proves how much your children means to you and that's a blessing to know.

    Beautiful

Your children are very lucky to have such an adoring mother!

This was so beautiful, and your children are beautiful as well.

I love the flow of this, and the rhyming. I hope your kids love your talent when they get older, and hopefully inherit your way with words!

    Again, a beautiful poem!

Tis a truly wonderful dedication to your lovely children. One day, when they are older, they will hold your ever nearer to their hearts.
