I felt the variable heat of summertime
begin to assault my negligent senses
as your barbecue breath drifted down my neck
murmuring platitudes along my vertebrae
but this didn't make me anxious.
You grasped at me as if looking for some leverage
and the longing in your eyes was just for the height of my shoulders
from up there the deep end would look like a wading pool
imagine what dreams you could accomplish
using me like some kind of fleshy diving board.
Still I was trapped,
starstruck by your overwhelming person
and I forgot to check your words for honesty
instead I paddled along beside you
welcoming the sunburn.
What a hopeless loser I must have seemed
desperate for any sort of beach bum attention
grinning madly as you ground me into the sand between your toes
and moved into a new circle.
Is it so easy to misunderstand someone's intentions
or were you really that slick
because my improved vision shows your character quite clearly
but I was loathe to call you out of the pool
and make you justify your behaviour.
Still, I have my revenge
while your swimming laps around the block
don't swallow too much water
its shallower than you think
and I added a little something to it.

This is good.I love it.

Isn't something how in retrospect we can see the shallowness, the flaws, of what we used to think was sincerity.
A good poem and reflects the the neglable aspects of a relationship or even a brief encounter.
Good luck in the contest
