cause eventually one will no longer care.
But not her, not this night.
She’s waiting, all dressed up in white,
like when he first got her in his sight.
One smile, a nod and they’d begun,
everything else for her was then undone.
What was so special about that dark hair,
she wouldn’t know to this very day.
But she knew that no matter what
a love like that would change her life.
All treasures of the world, without a sigh,
she’d give away just to see him smile.
Months went by, they became one.
What one would think, by other was done.
A perfect tale of undying love.
The dreams were shattered, love lost its course,
when world became possessed by a mighty force.
And what brought end to it all
was the all-present evil named war.
That chilly morning she came to see him go,
bravely setting out into the unknown.
He gently took her hand and said:
’Wait my dear, just wait for me.
Never forget that we’re meant to be.’
Even now those words linger in her head.
No letters did he send since then.
She went to the park again and again,
hoping he’d show up one night or day.
She let illusions flow through her veins,
desperate to wash away the apathy stains.
How many years passed, she doesn’t know.
Not enough to forget, to many to hold on.
So many times she’s been letting go
and swearing not to come there anymore.
She kept coming because inside she knew
someday he’d stand beside their tree too.
***
Wind slowly carried warm summer’s scent,
straight out of nowhere came a foreign gent.
A familiar voice said: ’Hello my dear’,
her eyes were instantly filled with tears.
His kisses erased all the pain, the years.
She finally knows what ’true love’ means.
Though often a heavy burden to bear,
promises sometimes won’t fade away.
Author notes
Too many people today are disappointed in love, I myself was so many times. This is my way to show that I still believe true love can happen, and not only in movies.

She wouldn't know til this very day. I like that line. Later in the piece, I have to admit I started thinking she was a fool! That just shows how cynical I have become because of course things did end happily.
Enjoyed your write.

Beautiful job
Excellent poem Nela, You always write beautiful words with such sweet story lines. I so enjoy reading your work. Too bad they had to wait a life time for their love, I want to know where he was and why he didn't write.
So sad for her.

Thank you for the lovely words.
I had World war II in mind when I wrote this one, that's where he went. I think there are stories like that in real life.

Sweet
A tender poem with story to tell
Joyfully it does this so very well
She had broken heart, His to mend
Brought back together by the end

Love is a many splendored thing, it can kill you or lift you to the mountain top.
It is all in the way you live it, some with fierce burning passion others with quiet internal strength, some kill at the slightest thought of being without it, others run from it as fast as they can.
I find love to be a very powerful thing indeed.
I like it, I like it so!
