to try and gauge that
vertical horizon
is difficult
and troublesome
for old eyes
requiring technically:
perfect flight
trick of the light
gentlest might
(with a pen)
from the man
in the sky
trying to coast
on thermals
with ruffled plumage
a stone in my craw
i find hymns
a comfort
For Ben

Intriguing write. Certainly open to interpretation. I don't know why but those last two lines feel like the combination of resignation and complacency mixed together. Well done.

Don't be discouraged. Young 20/20 eyes would probably look straight at the horizon and not even notice the problem. One of the problems is that old eyes are striving for perfection where the young are content with moving on quickly.
Don't know how relevant the comment is to the poem but it's what springs to mind.

oh but, Victor... the stone in the craw is awfully hard to swallow.... Yep... stupid.... sorry that the London picnic never happened. Best I expect!! Poets reading their liver and lights in Regents Park would not be clever nor pretty!! An un-Edna-fying site.... (miss spelling, miss behaving!!) xx best love xx Debs
