I have held the world in my hands,
My fingers curled around it,
Protecting and caring.
I have sheltered the crying and the wounded,
But I have let you slip from my grasp.
You fell to the ground,
Your body chilled before the fall.
I have tended to the needy,
And loved the forgotten,
But I could not save you.
I heard you cry,
But I followed too late,
Made to watch in pain as you wasted away.
What could I have done?
What can I do,
When I have died along with you?
The glass has shattered all around,
Cracking beneath my feet,
Grinding into my soul.
How can I pick up the pieces,
When I have splintered as well?
How can I continue when I have lost,
When I have failed?
