I thought of you yesterday
A smile spread across my chapped lips
There were no tears this time
Just change
It's been awhile,
Hasn't it?
Not a day passes without a small
Reminder
Some days
Are easier than others
There's a small shamrock
Adorning my body
A memorial to you
A piece of you I carry with me
Every part of you
Encompasses who I am
You only knew who I was
But it's you who shaped me
I miss your words
Your poetic wisdom
The way you were
So strong for me
You never failed me
It was your body that gave way
I never realized
When the roles changed
When I was the strong one
And you, you were ... amazing
I knew you were gone
My heart told me
Even when my head
Ignored it
I've spent every moment
Since
Pining for you
Living without you
I've grown so much
I know you're proud
And one day
When I am old and gray
And my body no longer lives
You will be waiting for me
Till then
I whisper to you
In the dead of night
I know you hear me
And I wait for the child
That will reassure me
That you have kept her safe
That you are safe
It's been a long road but I know you are there
Every step of the way
No one could understand
What we had
What we still have
And that's ok
I have moved on
In this lifetime
And built a life
Around the ache
I've learned to love
Again
And it will be ok
I can wait
Because you and I,
We have all the lifetimes after this one
