Precious Death

He spoke a thousand words of poetry
Whispers of a love, oh precious blow
She clutched them to her fading memory
The sweetest blade of pain had cut her so

Yellowed, like the corpse of passing time
Her heart, alone, abandoned, beating still
His words, a cherished poison steeped in rhyme
Forgetting ne'er the warmth of hidden chill

I am sickened unto death, behold her now
Decaying to the endless march of years
Sagging shoulders born by furrowed brow
Hollow eyes glazed o'er by frozen tears

Princes never rescue broken hearts
And oft the Reaper brings the only ease
Love so often rips the soul apart
And festers in the wound, a sweet disease

And so I watch her drift into the mist
An existence evanescent to the end
Clutching to her breast a treasured kiss
Forever shall mendacious love transcend

I do enjoy your poetry, so much. It's the truth, unfortunately men seem to weave professions of love before ever knowing if that's the true emotion that they feel, though not only men do it. Because of that, many are hurt, and it doesn't seem right that to make yourself happy, generally someone else is in pain for it. This really is a beautiful poem with a beautiful rhythm and wondrous rhyme. It's actually written in my favorite form. Simple, practical, and so very magnificent when used well. I'm sure you'll find some way to improve it, but the only problem that I really see, if you can call it that, is the varying number of syllables in a few of the lines,

Thanks so much, hun!! Yea, that's always been a problem of mine; I hate counting syllables, so they often end up a little off.

Thanks so much for the sweet comment. I'm so glad you enjoy my poetry.

      • Yeah, I do the same thing, and that's the only reason I EVER see it. (Still looking for that book...) ll=ol
