I Stood and Watched

I stood and watched
as you hung yourself…
trying to pull a feeling out of me,
just one;
but I had been numbed the day I opened my eyes…

    Powerful, dynamic, magnetic

    Brevity with the force of a gravitational field. A compelling write with a magnetic pull to deeper thought and introspection.

    So many ways to look at this. I suppose it is sad. I can also sympathize with the writer, for I know that numb feeling, and have been in the situation where someone else's pain fell on deaf ears. (of course they weren't hanging themselves though.) Makes me sound sort of cold and heartless, eh? Oh, well...I don't know if that makes sense, but....regardless..a good write.

    How sad but yet how much easier life would be if we were numbed to the pain.

      hmmm... yes, what you say is wise and true- to be numb is sort of an easy way out... and is therefore a choice...

          literally? (j/k) I know, empathy... feeling... that could stimulate a long philosophical discussion...

    Ouch...sounds harsh but I guess when resentment builds it becomes hard to show compassion. Best of luck in the contest

      thanks, it wasn't resentment, it was being numbed the day one opens one's eyes, literally, the day one was born (in reality a few weeks later, in the crib) psychologists would call it an environmental factor (as opposed to a chemical or a genetic one) (and now I've said too much! lol I should let the readers dwell in their own interpretations...)
