Like belles of bawdy costume balls,
Assuming poses as they please,
Appear all these seductive dolls
Inside their glass menageries;
These temptresses in window stalls
Who like to tantalize and tease,
In leopard prints and fishnet hose-
These painted ladies all in rows.
These fascinating femme fatales
With wicked eyes and killer lips,
Like Loreleis and Jezebels,
The girls who sink relation-ships;
Who cast their captivating spells,
And with their hypnotizing hips,
Use their allure, and catch our eyes
With flashing flesh they advertise.
The window-dressing girls who troll
For tattooed sailors on parade,
Who on the lurid red light stroll,
Have come to view the flesh displayed;
Who crave to fill the empty hole,
And join this hollow masquerade,
Played out along the gas-light strands,
Here in the ghostly Nether-lands.
And swept up in this mindless throng,
That seemed like an unconscious stream,
I must confess, the siren's song
And lotus blossoms made me dream;
They hooked me in, strung me along,
Where things are never what they seem-
Into a world of smoke and mirrors,
Of thin disguises and veneers.
They made me stray and deviate,
Until from somewhere high above,
From heaven sent to set me straight,
Appeared my one and only love;
Who saved me from my lecher's fate,
Descended like a lovely dove,
And calmly cleansed my wretched taint
With pure compassion of a saint.
And mid-wife of my heart's rebirth,
How she restored my sanity;
She brought me right back down to earth,
Exposed this fare of vanity
For all the nothingness it's worth;
And with her warm humanity,
She pulled me from a dreadful place,
And saved me with amazing grace.

Well written. Most Impressive.
First this is very well written. The rhymes are unforced. The piece flows very well. You have personified grace in this and I like that.
I also relate very much to this piece. It touches me personally. Graduations. This is well deserving a trophy.

Ah, friend..you have captured grace in your own unique style...How refreshing to read your version ..."my one and ony love, who saved me from my lecher's fate ...and calmly cleansed my wretched taint with pure compassion of a saint"
Your talent amazes me! A marvellous penning here!

Wonderful
Very creative and well written. Captures grace so well. Best of luck in the contest.

You have a word in here which always grates - "troll". It's modern usage is a misunderstanding of the metaphorical use of the word "trawl". But never mind.
There's an echo of Leonard Cohen's Sisters of Mercy towards the end, in the mixing of sacred and profane. Nicely carried off, nicely executed.

Love the rescue, He is just simply amazing, Grace grace and more grace no matter what we done, where we have been...He will take away the sin. Hates the sin but loves the sinner. Well done, David, Blessings.
