Last night I had a vision
The images came to life
Pictures set before me
Against a blood red sky
I thought I could hear thunder
Like hail on an old tin roof
Suddenly I realized
It was horses on the move
I saw them in the distance
Charging through the clouds
A gorgeous herd of mustangs
Wild and running proud
They came on ever closer
I began to see details
These were spirit horses
Riding a ghostly trail
Their hooves were throwing fire
With every step they took
I wanted to move closer
To gain a better look
Manes as dark as coal
Coats of red and black
Eyes of glowing embers
Never looking back
I saw no brands upon them
No fences held them in
No man could ever own them
Independence with no end
The meaning of this vision
Came to me just then
A smile upon my face
A strange but knowing grin
When I leave this world
I can decide where I want to be
I’ll choose to run with mustangs
Forever wild and free
The images came to life
Pictures set before me
Against a blood red sky
I thought I could hear thunder
Like hail on an old tin roof
Suddenly I realized
It was horses on the move
I saw them in the distance
Charging through the clouds
A gorgeous herd of mustangs
Wild and running proud
They came on ever closer
I began to see details
These were spirit horses
Riding a ghostly trail
Their hooves were throwing fire
With every step they took
I wanted to move closer
To gain a better look
Manes as dark as coal
Coats of red and black
Eyes of glowing embers
Never looking back
I saw no brands upon them
No fences held them in
No man could ever own them
Independence with no end
The meaning of this vision
Came to me just then
A smile upon my face
A strange but knowing grin
When I leave this world
I can decide where I want to be
I’ll choose to run with mustangs
Forever wild and free
Author notes
I'm a horse lover to the end. I was intrigued by this image and inspired by the belief I have that many of the visions spoken of by American Indians of old were deeply profound.

What a great write, hon! Reminded me so much of that wonderful old song 'Ghost Riders in the Sky', one of my favorites growing up.. I'm with you, I'd go running free and wild with the herd any day.. Well done..
